Project overview:
The Gateway Upgrade North (GUN) project involved significant upgrades to the Gateway Motorway between Nudgee and Broken Ridge in Queensland. This motorway carries more than 83,000 vehicles a day. The GUN project has reduced congestion, improved travel time reliability, accommodates for future growth and improves motorists’ safety. The project included widening 11.3km of the motorway from four to six lanes from Nudgee to Deagon (with future provision for eight lanes), reconfiguration of the Nudgee Interchange, widening of Deagon Deviation to four lanes, 11 new and upgraded bridges, Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) including variable speed limit signage, variable messaging signs, speed enforcement cameras and ramp metering, and the rehabilitation of the Gateway Motorway between Bracken Ridge and the Bruce Highway including pavement and safety improvements.
The Gateway Upgrade North project required design packages and construction works to be verified, commissioned and handed over as assets to Transurban Queensland on behalf of DTMR and its internal stakeholders. Other allied road infrastructure will be delivered and be handed over to third parties, including the Brisbane City Council (BCC), Queensland Rail (QR), ENERGEX and other public utility plant (PUP) authorities.
Role on project:
The Driftwood Consulting team members were subcontracted to Aurecon who was appointed as the Independent Verifier (IV) for GUN. The IV Team verified the design and construction of the project works, including temporary work, and we oversaw the construction works and verified the Contractor’s compliance with the contract documents. The IV Team received favourable reports on our project performance for adding value by being proactive in helping close out challenging design issues.
