Project value in AUD:
$385 Million
Start and completion date (of the commission):
2011 – 2012
Role:
Construction Verifier
Project overview:
The project, known as Port Connect, delivered a duplication of the existing two-lane motorway, as well as a three-kilometre extension making the Port of Brisbane Motorway four lanes from the Gateway Motorway through to Pritchard Street, Lytton, which is the lifeline of Brisbane’s trade – in being the only route in and out of the port which is used by thousands of heavy vehicles per day. The work delivered a new interchange with an overpass between Lytton Road and Pritchard Street. This interchange provides access to the Port of Brisbane Motorway from the local road network, as well as allowing vehicles to make local trips.
The works included extensive soft ground treatments up to 25m deep, six new bridges including one new interchange overpass, heavy duty asphalt pavements, EPBC conditions for design and construction due to marine environment and RAMSAR wetlands, major PUP management including relocations and protections of assets servicing the Port of Brisbane (PoB) and the Caltex Refinery (both 24hr operations), design and installation of an ITS network to integrate with the wider motorway networks and with a focus on safe and reliable heavy vehicle operations.
